This story speaks for itself . . . I've included links to several Habitat for Humanity pages, and to Travelers also. The subrogation amount involved is $145,900.

Thanks to the unnamed friend who let me know about this. You know who you are. If anyone has more news about this, please let me know.

Moldy home suit hits Habitat for Humanity (Sacramento Business Journal, CA, January 17, 2003)

The spread of mold litigation knows no bounds. Ask Sacramento Habitat for Humanity, a charitable group sued twice for mold damage in a house it built.

Travelers Indemnity Co. wants Sacramento Habitat for Humanity to repay what the insurance company spent on mold cleanup, replacement costs and living expenses for a Rio Linda woman who bought a house from the local charitable organization, and helped build it.

Habitat for Hummanity

Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As President of the United States, Jimmy Carter was deeply committed to social justice and basic human rights. He and his wife Rosalynn left the White House in search of meaningful ways to contribute in these areas. In addition to promoting peace and human rights through the nonprofit Carter Center in Atlanta, they lead the Jimmy Carter Work Project (JCWP) for Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) one week each year.
Jimmy Carter's involvement with Habitat for Humanity International began in 1984 when the former president led a work group to New York City to help renovate a six-story building with 19 families in need of decent, affordable shelter. That experience planted the seed, and the Jimmy Carter Work Project has been an internationally recognized event of HFHI ever since.
Jimmy Carter Work Project 2003
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each year since 1984, former President and Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn have devoted a week to a labor of love--building houses with Habitat for Humanity partner families. They have worked alongside partner families and volunteers in locations throughout the U.S. and abroad. During the week of June 6-13, 2003, the Carters will lead JCWP 2003 in three communities-- Valdosta and LaGrange, Georgia, and Anniston, Alabama--not far from their own home in Plains, Georgia.

More than 2,000 volunteers are needed to join the Carters as they work alongside homeowner family members, who are required to invest "sweat equity" in the houses they will purchase. House sponsors and building materials also are needed.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2002 to Jimmy Carter, for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.
During his presidency (1977-1981), Carter's mediation was a vital contribution to the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt, in itself a great enough achievement to qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize. At a time when the cold war between East and West was still predominant, he placed renewed emphasis on the place of human rights in international politics.
